Staff Spotlight: Adam Schultz

1. Who are you, what do you do at PH, and where are you from?

I am Rev. Adam C. Schultz (Pastor Adam or just Adam is fine), and I grew up in Knoxville, TN. I am the Spiritual Counselor which means I provide counseling for our clients specifically around spiritual questions like “Why did God let this happen to me?” “Does God still love me now?” or “My abuser used my faith to control me and now I’m trying to rediscover what it is I actually believe.” Additionally, I serve as a liaison between Project Horizon and faith leaders in the area, and I help facilitate an LGBTQIA+ support group.

2. What led you to Lexington and the work you do now?

In addition to being Spiritual Counselor here, I am a pastor. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church called me to be their pastor, and that’s how I ended up in Lexington. I was drawn to work at Project Horizon because of so many people I have known and loved over the years have been affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. One person I know was told by her pastor that God hates divorce and to go home to her abusive husband and think of Jesus’s suffering whenever her husband abuses her. That’s not okay, and as clergy myself, I need to provide proper counsel whenever my clergy colleagues fail to do so.

3. What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is accompanying clients as they step into freedom and blossom with renewed strength and deeper understanding.

4. What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I’m a nature buff and would like to visit all the national parks before I die.
