2020 In Review

Updated: Apr 22, 2021

Growing the Project Horizon Family

In 2020, we welcomed 3 new employees and 19 new volunteers. We added new positions, including a Latinx Case Manager, Housing Coordinator, and Community Outreach Specialist. In 2021, we're looking forward to adding a new Child Counselor and a Human Trafficking Specialist.

Unveiling a New Children’s Center

In December, we were excited to finally cut the ribbon on our new Children's Center next door. The new building is home to a forensic interview room for victims of child sexual abuse, a new play therapy room for child counseling, and some of our new team members. In a new collaborative partnership with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, our Director of Therapeutic Services, Hannah Knight, will take on the role of Human Trafficking Coordinator. She will lead Project Horizon's efforts to combat human sex trafficking in the Rockbridge area and provide services for survivors.

Expanding Our Services

As part of our growing efforts to increase the range of services Project Horizon offers, we are hoping to complete a forensic medical examination room in 2021. We're planning to open an on-site examination room to make the process more comfortable and convenient for victims.

Thank You

There is no question that this has been a tough year for everyone -- victims, staff, and supporters alike. We want to thank each and every one of you for the support and encouragement you've given us. Sexual and domestic violence do not take a break during a pandemic, and we wouldn't be able to do this work without the support of our volunteers and donors.

In order to keep clients and staff safe, we've expanded our use of hotel rooms to house victims and limited physical donations. With our annual fundraising efforts put on hold and an increase in the number of people seeking our services, this year has placed a strain on our staff and available resources. Despite all that 2020 has thrown at us, though, we've been able to grow our team, expand our services, and provide services to a record number of people. None of this would be possible without your support.

If you would like to make a monetary donation by credit card, please contact our operations manager at (540) 463-7861. Checks made payable to Project Horizon can be sent to 120 Varner Lane, Lexington, VA 24450. Those looking to donate through PayPal can find the link on our website, www.projecthorizon.org.
